Food, movies and more food

Saturday morning started off right with a girls brunch. I met Cara, her sweet friend Jenn and baby Duke at Wild Eggs. I had the life-altering, house-made granola which includes dried bananas, cranberries, golden raisins, apricots, almonds and pecans. (Disclaimer: I have been known to refuse to eat both dried bananas and raisins. This is different, this is Wild Eggs granola. They do something to the bananas and raisins - I don't know what - but it is cinnamony deliciousness.)

While the gals were are Wild Eggs, the boys were at Donut Kastle. This Louisville treasure looks condemned from the outside, but there is nothing condemning about this place - except for extreme calories. Since 1974, Donut Kastle has been spelling Castle with a 'K' and making donuts by hand every Monday through Saturday. They're open from 6-11 a.m. but they're usually out of donuts by 9:30 or 10:00, and you just have to deal with it. They only accept cash and if they don't have the appropriate change, you just have to deal with it.

Saturday afternoon was filled with some light cleaning, a little laundry but mostly napping. We met some new friends, Tyler and Whitney Miller, for dinner at Ramsi's. Drew had fajitas, I had the life-altering fish tacos and with the exception of our creepy, blondie waitress a good time was had by all.

Sunday morning was Sunday school and church - then Steak-n-Shake and a matinee! It was my first steak burger and movie of 2011. I think I only went to three movies in 2010 so I'm already off to a good start. We saw The King's Speech with British hottie Colin Firth and it was great - I highly recommend it and it deserves every Oscar it was nominated for.

Sunday afternoon had more napping, a wee bit of laundry, a walk down Bardstown Road for a slice of Papalino's pizza and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps with rockstar Michael Douglass.

I'm so thankful to have a full weekend off. And I certainly hope to have a vegetable at some point today.
