I can't claim this photo, it was taken by an acquaintance. Louisville has three Borders bookstores and two of them are being liquidated and will be out of business within days. This sign was on the front door of one sad Borders, pretty clever.
On our first trip to Louisville we visited the downtown Borders. This two story mega-store became one those places that we visited each time we were in town before The Big Move. I would ravenously search local magazines and newspapers for job listings while Drew would inhale coffee and look for theology-history-political-religious-books. The downtown Borders really was the best in town, it had the nicest cafe and you could always count on a homeless person asking you for some change.
This is Carmichael's Bookstore, it is just a few blocks from our apartment and a very charming place to visit. Carmichael’s has been in business in Louisville for more than 30 years and it is the Whole Foods of bookstores - the staff eats lots of granola, may or may not shower weekly, and has very strong social and political opinions.
