I recently spent nearly an hour rummaging through the Target Christmas decorations. In my mind I was decorating huge trees and buying all kinds of ornaments for my nephews (there are three of them now!).
I noticed they had several different pickle ornaments, but I had no idea what the meaning was behind them. So, naturally, I google-d it.
Here's the pickle legend: “A very old Christmas eve tradition in Germany was to hide a pickle ornament deep in the branches of the family Christmas Tree. The parents hung the pickle last after all the other ornaments were in place. The first child to find the pickle would receive an extra gift from St. Nicholas. The first adult to find the pickle traditionally gets good luck for the whole year.”
So there you go, happy pickle hunting.
How fun! I had no idea.
