A vintage kind of weekend

This was a special weekend. Drew and I headed to Arkansas and Missouri to visit family. Spending time with our families - and enjoying our favorite eateries - was fantastic, but so was the sightseeing.

While in Fayetteville Mrs. Jan and I hit Mae's Emporium. This vintage jewelry shop can't be much larger than my "petite" living room but it is filled to the brim with the most incredible vintage lockets, pendants and bracelets.

This Mae's locket was a Christmas gift from the Griffin's. The photo is blurry, but it says "EDG." It is from the WWI era and has a great little "tooth" mark on it.

This golden yellow, Bakelite bracelet was a gift Mrs. Jan picked up for me this weekend. Bakelite is a resin-like material that was at its popularity peak in the 1950s. The Bakelite colors are wonderful, I especially like the greens and yellows. I can't wear yellow clothing, but I sure can wear yellow jewelry!

Mae's is painted in Ralph Lauren's "peacock" paint and has all kinds of red and black accessories. This is a closest swatch I could find of that great color. At present this is my favorite color.

Another Fayetteville treasure is The Gift House. I found mom's Mother's Day gift - to be revealed later - and this antique reproduction lingerie chest. I pretty much love every thing about this chest. It is tall but thin, perfect for apartment living.

Maybe I can't have a desk right know, but maybe I could work with this?
(Now I just need to find a few more quarters in the couch cushions.)

Saturday morning in Springfield called for breakfast at Aunt Martha's Pancake House - a Springfield institution since 1959.

I had the pecan pancakes and coffee. Drew had: coffee, juice, eggs over-easy, bacon, a short-stack of pancakes and biscuits with sausage gravy.

Mom and I set out to do "girly" things, which included a stop at The Thicket. This flower-antique shop, which is owned by a friend of moms, had this treasure. This beat up, old green chest was just lovely. It also sat in front of a "peacock" colored wall.
