This is the chocolate dipped cake donut from Nord's Bakery. Nord's is a 70+ year old bakery in Louisville's Germantown neighborhood. Nord's opens at 6 a.m. and is staffed by the nicest group of old ladies. They frequently sell out of donuts, apple fritters, kuchen and danishes in just a few hours. Their most famous item is the maple-bacon donut, which is a long-john with thick maple icing and topped with a crispy piece of bacon, but my heart belongs to the chocolate iced cake donuts. A Nord's donut is about 75 cents, and if you're a "first timer" you get a small sack of donuts free.
I've written before about the deliciousness of Donut Kastle. Well, Donut Kastle just didn't open-up one Saturday morning this past Spring, and it hasn't opened since. This is sensitive subject for Drew, he had developed quite a fondness for their tasty treats and their utterly worthless staff.
