Day 3 - learning & serving

This morning we met with Freddy Wyatt, lead pastor of the Gallery Church and talked - a lot. We talked about everything from church plant financing to local eateries and anything in between. The Wyatt's have been in New York for three years, have three kids and have lived in three different NYC neighborhoods. We were so thankful to hear some of Freddy's wisdom, lessons learned and encouragement. After about four hours of chatting we all headed to lunch at a local Indian restaurant were I had fantastic tandoori chicken and Drew had very tasty chicken tika masala. Yum. After lunch we rolled ourselves into the Ace Hotel - which houses Stumptown Coffee. I am quite sure that I'm not nearly cool or hip enough to have been allowed in there. It was full of Manhattan-ites sipping on espresso and writing very important emails on their very sleek laptops. But the coffee sure was good.


We spent the afternoon putting together Gallery Church information cards to hand out around the neighborhood. Each card is packaged with Chiclets and sealed in a clear envelope. One of the goals this week is to complete 2,000 packets that will serve as invitations to Sunday services.

We headed back uptown around 5 p.m. and joined up with two fellow workers. After dinner at Ray's Pizza {which was disappointing, rather mediocre New York style pizza} we stopped for dessert at Insomnia Cookies. This tiny shop serves warm ooey-gooey cookies round-the-clock and will deliver anywhere in the city. My chocolate chunk cookie was incredible and Drew devoured his M&M and chocolate chunk cookies {I should of just had cookies for dinner - they were that good}. As we walked back towards the "hotel" it started lightly snowing - it was just lovely.
